On July 19, 2013, the Cassini spacecraft slipped into the shadow of Saturn. With the bright light of the sun hidden behind the planet, it was able to point the camera at Saturn to take the first picture that showed Saturn, with Earth, Mars, Venus, seven of its moons and the rings, all in one shot. It seems to me we should not make it unlivable by heating up its microscopically thin atmosphere by burning fossil fuels. Where would our grandchildren go?
I agree, but when an “elected” president (W.Bush) is quoted to have said,
“What have future generations ever done for me,” suspect majority of Americans could care less about future generations, unless they can help them without compromising one iota of their present standard of living — or driving (esp. in L.A. — walk? what’s that?)

I think there are enough, and ever more, people who feel a responsibility for the future of the planet and their grandchildren. Most of them appear to be outside of the United States – it seems – at least in public life – but even there we might be skewed in our perceptions!
Yes, but they are outside the U.S. It’s short-sighted (to say the least) for the Republican party to deny Climate Change, but until we get dark money and reverse Citizens United, that party is bought and paid for by multinationals who have no interest is excusing, say, Exxon, et al. for lying about the effects of their industries. But I shouldn’t judge, my adopted Canada has its tar sands in Alberta…
We really need to get this telomere thing figured out, so it’s more their OWN future that people are concerned about. Besides, I’d like to see this view from Saturn first-hand.
