Yesterday we went to lunch with friends at the Belching Beaver Brewery in Vista, and as we walked up to the entrance, we got to walk past a wall covered by giant Birds of Paradise plants, right by the sidewalk.

When I was a child, my parent’s bedroom had a big picture window completely covered in vines. The inside was covered with a heavy curtain, so the dove that built her nest against the window thought she was perfectly hidden. My brothers and I could peek through the curtains and quietly watch as she laid and hatched her eggs, fed her chicks and taught them to fly. She was teaching us something, too!
