Congressman Paul Broun on Science

Paul Broun, Republican congressman from Georgia has dismissed evolution, the Big Bang theory and embryology as “lies straight from the pit of hell.” This is not surprising, given the intellectual caliber of our congress – see Todd Akin.

What is stunning to me is that Paul Broun sits on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology. He is a medical doctor. He believes the earth was created in six literal days.

This kind of stupidity (for making such statements in the first place) and this complete disregard for legitimate science should not be possible on a seat on the House Science Committee. These guys make important decisions for the country in that regard. He says right there that he makes voting decisions based on the bible.

I wonder what he thinks about the principles of physics that enables his airplane to fly him to Washington? He probably would say that the planes are made out of Harry Potter brooms.

Let’s hope the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology is sufficiently embarrassed by this. Let’s hope he stays back in Georgia to practice his medicine, as long as I don’t have to seek his services myself.

He is running for re-election, and he is unopposed by Democrats.
