Do you know how to spell Conspiracy Theory?

To watch the movie: Zeitgeist

Zeitgeist is a German word, meaning:

– the spirit of the time
– the taste and outlook characteristic of a period or generation

This movie is not really a movie, but a lecture, well done, on a number of conspiracy theories. Some are done more effectively than others. The main focal points are:

1. Christianity, its history, purpose and effect throughout history and today.

2. The events of 9/11, insinuating that the US government created those events to fuel profit and create the Zeitgeist of war.

3. The machinations of the powerful elite in politics, business and the media that purposely keep the people stupid, poor and uninformed, for the well being of the few.

4. How the US banks manipulated the world and its market to gain global control, and how religion and world wars fit into their strategy.

I have to say, however, that no matter how far-fetched some of the claims are, they are just as thought provoking. It’s easy for the uninformed to get carried away and run with its claims.

But critical thinking and minor research will have you conclude that you can’t just trust all its claims. For instance, during the religion portion, about 20 minutes into the movie, Jesus is compared to many other “gods” and striking parallels are cited.

– Horus – Egypt (3000 B.C.)
– Attis – Greece (1200 B.C.)
– Dionysus – Greece (500 B.C.)
– Mithra – Persia (1200 B.C.)
– Jesus – Israel (0 B.C)

All these gods were supposedly born of a virgin on December 25th. Why that date? Watch Zeitgeist and it gives you the story.

First a clipping showing the basic life attributes of  Jesus:

For comparison, it shows  the basic life attributes of Horus, the Egyptian sun god of 3000 B.C.

However, just cursory research, simply picking Dionysus, I could not find any actual date of birth confirmation. While doing so, I found lots of interesting facts about the date of birth of Jesus (if he even existed as a historical person).

There is a long article about the birth date of Jesus, and the best guess it quoted is September 29, 5 B.C.

In Rome December 25 was made popular by Pope Liberius in 354 and became the rule in the West in 435 when the first “Christ mass” was officiated by Pope SixtusIII. This coincided with the date of a celebration by the Romans to their primary god, the Sun, and to Mithras, a popular Persian sun god supposedly born on the same day. The Roman Catholic writer Mario Righetticandidly admits that, “to facilitate the acceptance of the faith by the pagan masses, the Church of Rome found it convenient to institute the 25thof December as the feast of the birth of Christ to divert them from the pagan feast, celebrated on the same day in honor of the ‘Invincible Sun’ Mithras, the conqueror of darkness” (Manual of Liturgical History, 1955, Vol. 2, p. 67).

There is an abrupt change in cadence from the religious section of Zeitgeist to the 9/11 section. It would have been better done in two different movies in the first place. I could not even find the connection or the reason why they were back to back. The producers just wanted to pump a lot of conspiracy theory into two hours all at once.

I am sure that there are many ‘facts’ quoted as such that turn out to be theories or perhaps even fabrications once scrutinized. For instance, there was supposedly molten steel 20 days after the collapse of the twin towers in the basement, 2000 degrees F hot, when jet fuel only burns at 1500 degrees F. I am not a physicist or chemist, so I cannot credibly prove or disprove facts like that. All I can say is that I found myself more and more drawn into the narrative as it went on.

I was entertained, I was intrigued, and I was motivated to start more research. Then I caught myself. I realized that one could dedicate 10 lifetimes of study just to cover some of the subjects brought forth in Zeitgeist.
