Quicken is Going Through a Quick Death

On March 21, 2016April 23, 2016 By Norbert HauptIn Bad Product4 Comments

I have used Quicken for my finances since 1988. After almost 30 years of successful use, now after “upgrading” to Quicken Deluxe 2015, it has rendered itself unusable. I have to find another product. Let me explain:

Since the upgrade, every time I want to log into Quicken, it tells me it needs to make sure it’s me, and I have to go to my email, receive a code that I then have to type in before I can get in. When it used to take 5 seconds to log into Quicken, it now takes a minute. This is extremely annoying.

I learned that it’s using the Intuit ID for login, so you have to be connected to the Internet. This is annoying too, since I am not always online when I need to access my information.

I learned that there is no way to disable the “secure login option.”

After a half hour on the phone with some “very nice lady” somewhere in India, I ended up frustrated, went to their website and canceled my account. I am not downloading any account information from banks anyway, so why do I need to be online?  After that, I was able to login ok, for a couple of weeks.

Now, it’s not letting me in at all. In order to get to my information, I have to literally turn off my Internet connection, then log in, and now it allows me to work locally, the way I have been using the product for the last 28 years. This is doubly annoying, since I can’t go online to look at my accounts with banks, when I have to be offline with Quicken.

Quicken has literally created a situation where it simply does not work anymore.

After 28 years, I am now looking for another product to do my finance tracking.

Recommendations anyone?
