The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat

For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”

— 2 Thessalonians 3:10

GOP Rep. Stephen Fincher quoted this bible verse in the congressional debate about food stamps. He voted to cut food stamps. Presumably, everyone on food stamps is not willing to work, so why should they eat?

Fincher himself has received farm subsidies from the federal government for many years. In 2012, he collected $70,574. From 1999 to 2012, Stephen & Lynn Fincher Farms received $3,483,824 in agriculture subsidies.

Three million dollars over a period of 14 years is a nice chunk of money, worth running for congress for just to keep that spigot open and the juice flowing.

Fincher, of course, voted to maintain farm subsidies.

Here is an article listing of a number of other members of congress who personally receive farm subsidies.

I looked for an appropriate bible quote to this effect:

He who owns a farm shall be allowed to feast on the public trough, regardless of whether he produces anything of value.

But I could not find such a quote.
