A year and a half ago I researched the conflict of Sunni vs. Shia Muslims. They started hating and fighting each other more than 1300 years ago, and they are still at it today. Within the last century, the United States came along and started thinking that because there is oil under those countries, we could rearrange their belief system and government structures to make them more suitable to the way we like to do business. The Sunni and Shia conflict will go on for another 1000 years, no matter how much we think we want to meddle. The only question is: How many of our children do we send in there to die for one Ali or the other?
thanks, Norbert — not going to change anything in the middle east because it has been happening for so many generations. the arrogance of the u.s. is akin to telling someone to change their religion because of natural resources. if they grew broccoli, we would not care what they did to each other — except to observe it and comment on it, or perhaps send a bit of aid. we need to change. educate ourselves. respect. anyway, so much for my two cents. will read all of your post later. sure do appreciate your outlook.
Thanks, that’s a nice compliment. The insanity of our foreign policy. And the self-serving politicians keep it going because the military industrial complex flourishes as long as we have lots of wars. And we have been telling the public for so long that we are threatened by those people, the public believes it.
fear sells. I think we should get back to sex. fear is not very sexy.
