Abstinence-Only Programs and Rep. Bill Cassidy

In 2013, Bill Cassidy, the congressman and Louisiana Senate candidate, co-sponsored the Abstinence-Only Reallocation Act, which was supposed to award money to schools for abstinence-only education programs. He also railed against the contraceptive mandate of the Affordable Care Act.

As it turns out, he found out that abstinence-only programs, no matter how dedicated the parents may be, don’t work. His 17-year-old daughter is pregnant.

“Our children have been the greatest blessing of our lives and we welcome our grandchild as a joyous addition to our family,” he continued. “Our daughter now faces a more challenging future than her peers. She has our unconditional love and support.”
