128,053 Iraqi Civilians Killed since 2003

Check out the site IraqBodyCount and see for yourself. 128,053 Iraqi civilians have been killed since 2003.

The Iraqi dictator was vilified because “he killed his own people.” He did. He is gone now, and so is his brood.

However, I do not believe he would have killed 128,000 of his own civilian population in the 10 years since.

I do not think his regime was a good one. But I do criticize our own motives. While he was at war with Iran, he was good enough for us, we propped him up, sent him weapons and aid, and trained his soldiers. Then we decided he was a bad guy and we turned on him.

Since then, we have contributed to the killing or Iraqi civilians, first as collateral damage in the war, and now as part of the drone program. Of course, many Iraqi civilians are being killed by Iraqis themselves due to the sectarian strife that was left after we took away their government and dismantled their infrastructure.

But the moral upper hand we have? I think not.
