Reading “Rise and Fall” is Serious Work

I have been reading William Shirer’s The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich for weeks now, and I am only 35% into the book. The longest book I have read on the Kindle so far was The Count of Monte Cristo with about 25,000 Kindle locations. Rise and Fall has over 35,000 locations.

This is the kind of book I have picked up in bookstores before, thumbed through the 1,200 or so pages in fine print and decided that there is no way in the world I’ll read a book this large and long – about HISTORY to boot.

But on the Kindle, you don’t thumb through. You just start reading, and you get sucked in. My reading backlog is seriously building up. My reviews of books have all but stopped.

Blame it on Hitler.
