Leap Day Ruminations

It’s leap day and if you are an analyst like me, you can’t help think about stuff related to date and age on such a day. I do hope it’s not your birthday, though. Being born on Feb 29 has to be the worst, worse even than being born on December 23, 24 or 25. I know several people in those categories, including a daughter and a brother.

But back to my ruminations. Leap day had me thinking about the days of the year, which prompted me to figure out how old I was in days. Well, today I am 20,294 days old!

Wow, I actually missed my 20,000 days birthday on May 11, 2011.

This was tricky to figure out, because the year 2000 is in there, which is an exception to the exception to the leap year rule: Every year divisible by 4 is a leap year, except for all years divisible by 100, which are not, except for all years divisible by 400, which again is a leap year in the case of 2000. We have to wait until 2400 for that to happen again.

Well, even though I am 20,294 days old today, I don’t feel a day older than 20,000.
