The Mexican drug cartels are in an all-out war now that the Mexican federal government is cracking down on the cartels and internal corruption. The referenced article is frightening.
But just like wars over oil don’t work in the long run, wars over drugs don’t. There is too much profit in it. You have to fight the wars, but a much more effective method is to turn off the spigot of money, which means: The US needs to stop buying the stuff.
And that, of course, is easier said than done, and it has been talked about for decades. It seems to be getting worse, not better. Even college students sell drugs and don’t even feel remorse. Our society seems to have reached a state of comfortable numbness.
Tell that to the school children in Tijuana who see their fathers, decapitated, leaning against a school fence, with a warning poster next to it.
