Now the Catholic Church is starting to plan its own suicide. In this article reported by the Associated Press, a South Carolina Roman Catholic priest has told his parishioners that they should refrain from receiving Holy Communion if they voted for Barack Obama because the Democratic president-elect supports abortion, and supporting him “constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil.
“Voting for a pro-abortion politician when a plausible pro-life alternative exits constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil, and those Catholics who do so place themselves outside of the full communion of Christ’s Church and under the judgment of divine law. Persons in this condition should not receive Holy Communion until and unless they are reconciled to God in the Sacrament of Penance, lest they eat and drink their own condemnation.”
Just because Obama supports a woman’s constitutional right to choose what happens with her body does not mean he is pro-abortion.
I don’t think that in my entire life I have ever met a person that is pro-abortion. I resent this label and the insult this priest inflicts on me and the large majority of the population of the United States, as just witnessed in our recent election, by labeling us pro-abortion.
I do not believe the government has a right to dictate what I do in my bedroom, who I sleep with, whom I marry, what I do with my body, what any woman does with her body, what I read, study, and enjoy.
Let the churches start ex-communicating their own parishioners. Their numbers will go down, and I would welcome that.
It also galls me that the Catholic Church, of all religious institutions, talks about intrinsic evil.
This is the institution that spawned a generation of priests and bishops who have sexually and emotionally molested hundreds of boys and girls over decades, a practice that was, and possibly still is, so prevalent in the church that it almost bankrupted it? And it speaks out against our President-elect, and against me?
Please, God, give us a secular government for once.
