Movie Review: RED 2

RED2

RED stands for “Retired, Extremely Dangerous” and I set aside this sequel, RED 2, for a day when I couldn’t find anything better to download and I wanted to have some predictable, fun action. The unlikely team delivered.

Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) and his girlfriend Sarah (Mary-Louise Parker) are back, this time shopping at Costco, when they run into Marvin (John Malkovich) who asks Frank if he has killed anybody lately, or something to that effect.

This time, In RED 2, Frank gets together his unlikely team to track down a missing portable nuclear device. Everyone seems to want the weapon, governments, assassins, and terrorists alike. As expected, the action shifts from Moscow, to Paris, to London and many other places. Everyone wants to hurt the crew, and somehow they are immortal. Back with the team is also Victoria (Helen Mirren), the most lethal elder lady you have ever met, accompanied by her Russian operative and lover.

Missing are Morgan Freeman and Richard Dreyfuss, who were integral participants in the first RED.

Look at the picture above, check out the customes, and pay particular attention to Malkovich’s legs. He is again the goofy one in the team, wearing all kinds of ridiculous outfits and posing as the most ruthless one of the gang.

You might note that I haven’t talked much about the plot. It doesn’t really matter. It’s a funny, entertaining, and eminently forgettable movie, just what I needed when I didn’t want to do much thinking while I wanted to be entertained.
