California Poppies are the state flower of California. They are protected. When I hike pretty much anywhere in California in the spring, they grow like weeds.
Here is a little stand right next to I-15 to the left of the fence, a freeway with 6 lanes in each direction.
I did the painting above to be a diptych to go with the previous painting of daisies. Both these paintings are quite large, three by three feet each, so they’ll fill a large wall when they are next to each other.

Beautiful flower paintings, I especially love the California Poppies. I grew up in NorCal so they will always be a favorite.
Thanks for the nice comment!
Hi Norbert. Thanx 4 sharing your latest artistic endeavors–both paintings are lovely.
Do you also have the RED variety growing wild in California-? (I don’t mean the “cultivated” poppy—as per France//Flanders Fields etc–but the simpler “California” variety)
We have them as far away as Australia–!!
When the two paintings move into their new “home”—side by side, any chance of you sharing a photo of that–?
One of the paintings is already at Trisha’s office, so the other one will go there – after it’s cured, varnished and framed. That’ll be another 3 months or so. But I’ll be glad to post a photograph of it! Thanks for asking.
Oh, and we do NOT have the red uncultivated variety. That’s very popular in Europe, but nowhere here is the US have I seen them wild.
GORGEOUS! What a wonderful diptych. Your painting of daisies has been one of my all-time favourites amongst your works. Now there is another addition to that list. Love, love. love. Like Ray, I shall be looking forward to seeing them side by side in Trisha’s office.
