I recently noticed a book featuring the 50 best logos of all time. One of them was the “old” logo of American Airlines, which has been in use since 1968. I agree that it was iconic and recognizable.
Here is an article by Design Shack that gives much more detail about the design principles. Recently, as American Airlines is going through a reorganization, bankruptcy and a merger with U.S. Airways, it calls itself the New American Airlines, and it has redesigned its logo:
This logo might look good on the tail of an airplane, but it does not make much sense to me.
The only thing I see is a pair of the old 1990-era 3-D glasses that came with 3-D books and projects. They were usually blue and red, and had vaguely the shape of the new American Airlines logo.
Am I the only one seeing this?
