How Would Aliens Look at Humans?

About three years ago a reviewed the science fiction novel The Ghost Brigades by John Scalzi. In it he has a great, surprising, jarring description of what humans look like from the perspective of an alien. It is very well done.

Here is the link to my original post about this.

    Hi Norbert,
I’ve been reading your reviews of JOHN SCALZI’s books-& chasing links thru to your “take” on PETER F. HAMILTON stuff, also.
Before you “quit” altogether on Scalzi, or (in case you already have-!!) on the off-chance that you’d re-consider & give him one more chance, have you looked at any of his short story work ? For a quick read, an “alien fix”, & a lot of fun (all rolled into one small package)—check out, ” How I proposed To My Wife”-!!
On a separate matter, I just LOVED your take on the Arizona (so-called) “religious freedom” legislation. The more I think about the implications of your hotdog stand refusing service to Christians “on religious grounds”, the more effectively I realize such a tongue-in-cheek situation really sums up the hypocrisy & bigotry of those who would treat SOME people as “second class” citizens-!!!
Just IMAGINE the shrieks of “discrimination” were the “fundamentalists” on the RECEIVING end of the very legislation they appear quite content to use against others-!! Funny how people seem to feel they have “license” to tell others how to live-& whom they may love-!! QUITE different, however, were “the boot on the other foot”–!!
I hope you enjoy, ” How I Proposed To My Wife”-& thanx for your interesting snippets on “life & other things”-!! Cheers from Down Under-Ray.

    1. What a nice set of comments. No, actually I have not given up on Scalzi altogether, just that series, but I would never have thought of picking up “How I proposed…” but I will now.

I enjoyed your comments on religious freedom and turning the tables.

Here is a funny one: You know how they always say that homosexuality is a choice, a learned behavior. The perfect answer to that is that yes, if it’s a choice, why don’t you try to be homosexual for a few weeks – it’s a choice, isn’t it? You should be able to try it then.

      Good luck with that.

    OMG Norbert,
can you hear my chortling all the way from the Southern Hemisphere-!!! Just LOVE that one-!!!
I’ve just read & enjoyed your latest comments regarding the slippery slope of discrimination under the guise of “religious freedom”. I seem to recall there’s historical precedent to clearly demonstrate such a “slippery slope” can quite quickly become an AVALANCHE-!! Something about Nazis & Jewish people, I think-!!!
Keep up “the good fight”—& I hope you enjoy, “How I Propsed to my Wife”-!! Cheers-Ray.
